Barcelona Half Marathon by Brooks sells out with 36,000 runners, setting a new participation record

The 2026 Barcelona Half Marathon by Brooks has sold out its 36,000 available bib numbers, consolidating its position as one of the largest half marathons on the international calendar.

This edition promises to turn Barcelona into a true celebration of sport, with lively streets, music, entertainment, and participants from around the world.

“We start the new season with great sporting news: the Barcelona Half Marathon by Brooks closes registrations five months before the race! With 36,000 registered runners, we are once again making history, and the 2026 edition will set a new participation record, further strengthening our position among the best half marathons in the world,” said David Escudé, Barcelona’s Sports Councillor.

A race marked by a world record

In the 2025 edition, Jacob Kiplimo set the men’s world record for the half marathon with an extraordinary time of 56:42, shaving 48 seconds off the previous best and becoming the fastest man ever over 21.097 km.
“I didn’t expect to set a new world record, but it was the perfect race. I ran alone the whole time and felt great,” said the world champion.

This achievement placed Barcelona at the center of the global athletics scene, while the women’s race also reached a historic milestone: Joyciline Jepkosgei set a new women’s course record with 1:04:11, improving her previous mark by 18 seconds.
“I love Barcelona. It’s a fast race with a great atmosphere and a perfect course. I want to keep improving year after year,” declared the two-time champion.

A massive and inclusive edition

The Barcelona Half Marathon maintains the inclusive spirit of the previous edition, with 40% female participation and representation from 95 nationalities, confirming its status as one of the most popular international races for both elite and recreational runners.

More than a race: a running festival

On February 15, 2026, Barcelona will once again be alive with a sea of runners. The streets will be filled with music, entertainment, and excitement, making the Half Marathon much more than a competition: a citywide celebration of sport.
Moreover, the festivities will continue beyond the finish line. The PaRUNda will transform the post-race experience into a large festival with concerts, extending the experience beyond the 21K and turning the day into a citywide event.

In the coming days, the Barcelona Half Marathon by Brooks will launch an official marketplace where runners can purchase bibs from participants who are unable to attend. This initiative guarantees a safe and transparent transaction, allowing more participants to enjoy the race. The marketplace will be available through the official race platform.
