- The 2026 Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks opens registration this Tuesday, June 10.
- Barcelona, home of the fastest 21.097 km in history (56:42), will once again come alive with the most festive and popular half marathon.
On February 15, 2026, Barcelona will once again become the world capital of running with a new edition of the Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks, which opens registration this Tuesday, June 10. And it does so with a major challenge: to surpass an edition that already holds a place in the history books of world athletics.
On February 16 this year, Ugandan athlete Jacob Kiplimo achieved the unthinkable: he flew through the streets of Barcelona and set a new half marathon world record with an astonishing time of 56:42, shaving 48 seconds off the previous record and becoming the fastest man of all time over 21.097 km.
“I didn’t expect to break the world record, but it was the perfect race. I ran alone the whole time and felt great,” said Kiplimo after leading solo from kilometer 2 and crossing the finish line nearly two minutes ahead of his rivals.
Kiplimo’s world record firmly placed Barcelona at the center of the global running scene. But it wasn’t the only historic achievement: Joyciline Jepkosgei also set a new women’s course record (1:04:11), improving her own previous mark by 18 seconds.
“I love Barcelona. It’s a fast race, with a great atmosphere and a perfect course. I want to keep improving year after year,” said the two-time winner of the event.
The last edition welcomed over 30,000 participants (a record figure), with 40% female participation and runners from 95 different nationalities. This year, the challenge is to surpass that number with an iconic course, festive atmosphere, and ideal conditions for achieving personal bests. The Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks has become a global benchmark for both elite athletes and amateur runners alike.
